The Visiting Medical Officer, Voluntary Assisted Dying Consultant/Coordinator (VAD) is a key role established to support the delivery of the Northern NSW Voluntary Assisted Dying Services across the Local Health District.

Where you'll be working

 

The Northern NSW Local Health District extends from Tweed Heads in the north, to Tabulam and Urbenville in the west, and to Nymboida and Grafton in the south. We provide acute healthcare services in eight hospitals, and four Multi-Purpose Services (MPS).  Our hospitals are located at: Ballina, Byron, Casino, Grafton, Lismore, Maclean, Murwillumbah and Tweed Heads. Our MPS facilities are located at: Bonalbo, Kyogle, Nimbin, Urbenville.  The position may require the successful applicant to work from any site within the LHD and may be required to attend other sites to attend in person meetings.   Refer to the Position Description for more details.

Selection Criteria

  1. Registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist or hold General registration and have practiced in the medical profession for at least 10 years as the holder of general registration
  2. Is a NSW Health authorised Voluntary Assisted Dying medical practitioner
  3. Demonstrated ability to liaise effectively and compassionately with all stakeholders, colleagues, direct reports, as well as patients and consumers
  4. Sound knowledge of and commitment to clinical quality and patient safety, work health and safety, working within NSW Health Policy and current clinical practice guidelines
  5. Demonstrated good understanding of the NSW Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2022
  6. Demonstrated commitment to continuing self-education and professional development, including evidence of participation in continuing medical education and continuing professional development
  7. Valid unrestricted drivers’ licence for use in NSW/Australia and willingness to travel in the course of employment
